I got an Aquabug!

I have always wanted an automatic pool cleaner but they were way too pricey.  Most are around $500.00 or so dollars and I could not see spending that much money on something I could take the time to do myself...that is until I was browsing around eBay last week and found Hayward now makes a much cheaper model.  I bought the Aquabug for $85.99  I tried it with my old vacuum hose and it was not long enough for the bug to work properly so I did end up spending another $40.00  on a new hose.  Our old one needed replacing anyway as it had a couple of small pinholes in it.

The Aquabug goes around in circles and back and forth until it cleans the entire pool.

Our pool is a 16 x 32 and it has been about 2 1/2 hours since I hooked it up and the pool is almost entirely clean.  I still have to brush off the steps and a little algae off the wall so the bug can get that up as well.

I am so going to enjoy this summer not having to hand vacuum every few days.  Now if I could just teach it to make a nice cold drink!

  1. Pretty cool! I didn't know they made automatic pool cleaners, but then again, I don't have a pool. Enjoy your time not doing pool maintenance.

    1. HB...We are 45 minutes away from any entertainment so the pool makes up for this. The Marine has a floating chair he uses for his enjoyment as well. My little bug is going to free me up several hours a week. I just sat on the deck and watched her work today until I thought how silly....I could now being doing something else!

PS...it was still fun watching something do the work you would normally be doing!

  4. kymber...I know of several people whom have kept their pool closed due to not wanting to clean it. My old boss filled his in with soil. It became a giant flower pot! I have heard there is so many foreclosed home with pools here in Florida that the counties are putting tadpoles in them to eat mosquitoes.

Pool maintenance is not that bad, when you open it for the swimming season and get the chemicals right you only have to check the chemicals once a week and adjust as needed. I don't use liquid chlorine. I keep enough tablets in the floater and shock it once a week or so. It is the vacuuming that is so time consuming...that is why I am going to love little "Crappie"

  5. Our last house had a pool - I always thought the extra work was worth it, but I love, love, love to swim, and so do the kids. That pool kept them busy for hours and hours out of every summer day! I'm glad you got a autovac that frees up some of your time!

  6. MM...don't forget I told you we had humble beginnings such as what you are going through now. If you want another pool later on....I'm sure you will find a way. Yep.... I love Crappie the Aquabug. She cleaned the pool while I assisted the goats in birth!
