Caught on Camera

I guess I got the PIR set correctly on the camera as these were two  very clear pictures.  It's a female.  She looks real healthy and may have pups.  Can't see a collar .  Have never seen her in the neighborhood.

I wonder if she is one of the hounds from hell?

I got to go and see what that weed is in front of the camera.

    1. All I have to remember is the 45 bodies we buried, all the money we put into the pens and feed. How we have lost almost all of our meat and egg supply. Who knows when the 4 hens I have remaining will get over this trauma and start laying again. I will have to find a mature rooster to even get fertile eggs again. What if we were already in a SHTF situation. This would be devastating. We can't allow this to happen here. Not a hard decision at all.

    2. Oh I understand. I would still have a hard time doing it though :(

  2. Get the gun and get her. She is at your place at night. Your chickens were killed at night. Anything on your property at night.....Shoot, shovel, silence! End of story.

    1. Tewshooz...The problem will be taken care of. We know she is coming in between midnight and 2 am. I expect if the treats haven't taken care of her then gunpowder will.

    2. Mamma Bear, Do you have a snug hen house for your chickens? We have to lock up our flock every night. If I lived closer I would send you one of our nice barred rock roosters.

    3. Our coop opens out to the chicken pen. We have about a 16 x 16 inch entrance for the chickens, and a door we use to go inside to collect eggs. Only one side of the coop goes into the pen. We have never had anything before to get into the coop but this time they did coming in from the chicken pen. There were 11 found dead inside the coop and several of them were so ripped up I know they didn't just go inside to die. Something was inside.

I have 4 barred rock hens left and 1 black silky. Wish you were closer too and I would take you up on your offer! Very nice of you!

  3. Knew it wasn't a coyote, track was too wide. I would suggest putting a door like on wild hog pens that the door only opens in and catch the culprit.

    1. Senior. If the treats don't work I am going to go get a trap from Animal Control. I think they operate with a door as you described. I still think there is more than one dog, especially the way some of them were ripped apart..

    2. Those traps will work, just make sure it's a big one. Even if you have to catch one at a time, you will get rid of them sooner or later.

    3. I'm going to get the biggest one they have. That looks like a good size dog in the picture and the tracks in the mud are rather large.

  4. Mamma Bear,
I'm thinking you may have more than one violator. Keep an eye out!!!

    1. Sandy...I feel sure there is more than one. Several different size tracks in the pen. If we don't get them by other means I will go get a couple of traps from Animal Control and see if we can trap them. Heard coyotes tonight while I was milking. Papa Bear and I both were looking but never saw them come from the woods. Dogs were barking and goats were a little nervous.

  5. Thanks. We have a door like that, too, that opens out into the chicken yard. We made it so it has a hinge on the top and a bolt on the bottom so we can lock it, too. Had some raccoons kill some chickens years ago and we made sure nothing could get into the chicken coop after that.

    1. russell...it does surprisingly well for a cheap camera. Papa Bear thought he turned it back on yesterday after he got through working in the area but he didn't. We had visitors but no pictures.
