Wednesday the pulmonary doctors office called and said they had a cancellation could Papa Bear come in Thursday. This is wonderful news. Papa Bear has been waiting since July for this appointment. In July when a CT was done for his gallbladder spots were found on his lungs. This from a man who has never smoked a day in his life. I was a little afraid because he has worked in places and been exposed to asbestos for years.
We left the house at 1:30 PM on Thursday for his appointment. The doctor is 99% sure the spots on his lungs is Old Histoplusmosis and turned into Old Granulomatous disease which isn't really a disease. It is a term used for calcification of the spots which were a result of having Histoplusmosis. Histoplusmosis is from a soil fungus he probably got from growing up in West Virginia near the Ohio River Valley. When the doctor gave us this news I did not realize how shallow I had been breathing. I just let out a huge sigh of relief and probably took my first deep breath in two months. Just to be on the safe side the doctor ordered a another CT to be done in 6 weeks with a follow up in 8 months.
We didn't get home until 4:45 Pm and the first thing we noticed was Bébé was not in the yard or her favorite place on the porch. I called and called her until I was almost hoarse. She usually comes running to me immediately. Papa Bear got the golf cart and rode all over the property looking for her. She loves to go down to the pond and take a dip to cool off but she was nowhere to be found. I cooked dinner, milked the girls and still no Bébé. Before bedtime I went out to the porch expecting her to be there wagging her tail but she was gone.
6AM Friday morning, I opened the door and was so disappointed that Bébé was not there. I fed the cats. went back inside to do a couple of things and get the milking items together. At 6:30 AM I started out the door to go milk and there was Bébé sitting wagging her tail! I fed her and she did her usual thing of going to the barn while I milked. When I got through she went back to the porch, laid down and slept for most of the day.
Papa Bear and I are wondering if she tried to follow us to town and if so just how far she get? She was gone for about 17 hours total before she came back home. I guess she really does belong here. We'll just have to be careful when we leave to make sure she's not following us, if that is what happened.
I would imagine Bebe went back to her waiting spot, but since she's settled in with you, I hate to think that she saw you leaving and felt she was being abandoned yet again. Never chain a dog. They are packages of love, not possessions. So, in your case, it's going to be a procedure of spending time with her, and her alone, in the yard so she'll know THIS IS THE PLACE where they visit ME.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever let her into the house? I bet she'd be a polite member of the family.
She would not step foot into the house. I finally drug her in one day so she could meet The Marine. She was very nervous inside and crouched down like she was waiting on a beating. It is not feasible to have such a large dog in the house. We have too much medical equipment and not knowing the dog long enough we could not possibly leave her alone with The Marine. I tell you this because The Marine wanted a Sheltie at one time and I got him one. He did fine with The Marine as long as we were in the room but when we left he tried on more than one occasion to gnaw through the Marine's feeding tube. If I tried to tuck his shirt in the Sheltie would jump on his stomach, claw and dig trying to get to the tube. We put him in the fenced in backyard, he got out and met with a panther. Later we got the Bichon for the Marine, we sure do miss him.
DeleteIf he has been waiting since July for a Dr. Appointment I am glad it was not serious, cannont imagine waiting that long to get an appointment.
ReplyDeleteGlad the dog came back, she may be a wanderer.
Papa Bear might could have got an appointment sooner with another pulmonary doctor but he requested the one who takes care of The Marine's lung issues. Can you imagine the wait one is going to have when Obama care kicks in completely?
DeleteI don't know about her being a wanderer. She has been here everyday except when the two of us left. If she is a wanderer I wonder when we get her spayed if it will put a stop to it?
oh Mamma - i am glad that you are finally breathing again and i am super glad that Pappa is going to be ok! as for Bebe - oh big sigh of relief there!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
Thank you my sweet friend. Papa Bear is my best friend in the whole wide world and I cannot imagine one day without him.
DeleteBebe is still here. She has learned to sit. I will work on stay next. I sure don't want her following us. Papa Bear left to go to the mailbox yesterday and noticed her beginning to follow him. He called and told me to call her back which I did. She came right back and the two of us waited on the porch for papa's return. Our mailbox is 3/4 of a mile away from the house but she does not need to be going. I can't get her to get into the truck yet or even the passenger seat of the golf cart to go for a ride. Maybe she is afraid I won't bring her back. It is sad and I just don't know.
oh Mamma - i know exactly what you mean when you say that Pappa is your best friend in the whole world - i feel the same about my jambaloney!
DeleteBebe just needs a little training and then she will be fine. she is in her proper family now...the family that the Lord intended for here...she's there to take care of all of you the way that you all are there to take care of her.
you and yours are always in our prayers. much love Mamma! your friend,
kymber
Glad everything turned out well. I'd said a couple prayers for you all. Glad your dog came home, too. We'd be heart-broken if anything happened to our little house-dog.
ReplyDeleteThank you GS for your prayers, Prayers make all the difference in the world! I am glad Bebe came back. We have two working dogs but haven't had one for just a pet in several years.
DeleteThe Merced Sun Star has been running a series of reports about fungal infection. Might read it and see if it fits your case.

Valley fever:fungal infection
Yes the doctor said there is an area along the Ohio river valley and another in California where there is a fungus in the soil that effects many people. You have to have a compromised immune system for it to get really nasty and cause the problems your article spoke of. Thank God Papa Bear is healthy as a horse!
DeleteI am happy about the good news!
ReplyDeleteOur cat tries to follow us on walks and I am always worried that she will get chased by a dog and get lost.
So Thankful Papa Bear is okay, and I hope you are too. Is BeBe the new hound dog you found? I am happy she found her way back home, and maybe now she will know you are not going to abandon her.
