Blessed Chickens
We got in our shipment of 23 hens and 3 roosters of Dominiques. This label was on top of the shipping container. I peeled it off and stuck it on The Marines door. I told The Marine they were blessed chickens if they were packaged by Israel!
They are very cute and were very verbal before they settled in. The Post Office called before 8AM and asked if I wanted to come pick them up!
We gave each one a drink and turned them loose in the little pen with a heat lamp.
It doesn't take them long to find the food. Hopefully in four to five months we'll have a new group of egg layers.
Of course we will for these little chicks are blessed!

DeleteI really want chickens. I think that needs to be my next project figuring out how to keep them safe from all the predators around here.

A really high poultry netting or a covered pen. Our first pen was near a security light so we did not have any problems with predators. When we moved them to the back we lost a few until I got the hoop coop built. I think a big owl took off with a couple. Now they know to get into the hoop coop before dark!

ReplyDeleteGlock Mom...Is it against the law to even have a few backyard hens in your area? Hens are OK in most areas. It is the roosters that crow 80 times a day that folks don't like.
DeleteBaby chicks are so cute and fuzzy, hope you get lots of eggs in the future.
ReplyDeleteYea...I tell the baby chicks here all the time it is a good thing they grow up to be somewhat ugly or I could never butcher any.
