Around the Homestead

A new kid was born last week.

The Marine got the goat in the bed visit as usual.

Daughter made a beautiful, yummy cake for my passover birthday.

The Marine and Papa Bear gave me these roses in a canning jar....How cute!
Do you think if I wear the bucket on my head, my people will notice all the mineral block is gone?

 Hello...Is anyone paying attention?

Maybe I'm gonna need a little help getting out of this thing.

We had a crazy Tom sitting on eggs for a few days.  Can animals have gender issues?  bahahahah

See?....The eggs later disappeared... Papa Bear thinks he ate them.  I wonder what would have happened if he'd actually hatched them?

I've canned a few jars of jalapenos.  I used to love these things with fried chicken.  Either my taste buds are changing or these things are getting hotter each year.  I need mild, mild I tell you.  These were so hot they made me cry!

Next to green beans, yellow quash is my summer favorite.  Sauteed with onion in a splash or two of olive oil with a little salt and lots and lots of black pepper.  I could eat them everyday and I just about do!. 12 quarts are in the freezer, lots have been given to family and friends and I only have 4 plants in the Back to Eden garden.  I picked almost a bucketful today that will need blanched and put in the freezer tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

  1. Yep had yellow crook necks three days in a row now prepped the same way. Given tons away as well. I planted way too many patti pans this year too.

That is weird a rooster sitting on eggs? And dot hey really eat them?

    1. PP...It was a Tom Turkey that was sitting on eggs! They disappeared after a few days ans I guess he did eat them. I have a turkey hen and chicken hen sharing a nest now. All of the eggs are chicken eggs. When those babies hatch, they are not going to know who their Mama is!

    2. Maybe one of turkeys moved the eggs to escape the paparazzi.

  2. Mamma Bear,

I love the picture of Sweet Marine and baby goat. Your son is smiling and so happy!!! Now this would make a great blown up picture. Well the first picture would have to be the one when he first had Baby in his bed, then the goat one:-)

Yum......what a beautiful cake, your making me drool and hungry. Your daughter did a great job on your birthday cake. Happy Birthday My Sweet Friend!!! Your only 29 and hold from here to eternity :-)

Not only a delicious cake, my favorite squash with onions omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I need to go search the refrigerator for something to eat.

    1. Thank you sweet Sandy...I was eating some of that yummy squash while I was writing this post. The only thing missing was a piece of cornbread but I am trying so hard to keep my weight down that I didn't have any...There's always tomorrow. bahahaha

Go raid your refrigerator...Maybe you'll find some squash!...I would email you some if I could....

  3. That is also my favorite way to fix yellow squash! Yum! Love your pictures, favorite is marine and baby goat! Cake looks soo good :)

  4. I have never had squash that way, but I am going to try it. That is a great picture of your son. It's great you keep him in the midst of farm life with visits like these.

  5. Mamma Bear,
What a beautiful ritual. I would have the new little goats visit the Marine too !
I too am trying to eat properly. I need to keep the energy up to take care of those horses. They are my "stay fit" program, and they seem effective at it.

  6. Funny! We have a tom currently sitting on eggs as well. His are due in a week or so, I will let you know how it goes! It is cracking us up! Hey we are needing to sell Rudy's beautiful full blooded Nubian daughter... are you in the market for a nubian doe?

  7. I love the baby goat with the Marine :) That little one looks like my little monster!
Your squash looks yummy! My plants bit the dust (squash bugs) before they could produce much, but I'm going to try again with my Fall garden!
Once these girls get back in school I'm going to start blogging again. I've been so busy, I guess a took a Summer break LOL!!! I look forward to reconnecting with everyone!
