We harvested our first honey and as promised I am giving away one of the first 1 1/2 pound jars bottled of "Mamma Bears Wildflower Honey." I may have a couple of extra things included with the honey if time permits. I never know from day to day here if I will have any extra time.
The only contest rules is to leave a comment. I'll put everyone's name in a hat and probably have the grandson draw a name. Contest closes at midnight May 17, 2013 and winner will be announced before noon May 18, 2013.
Good Luck Everyone!

DeleteMamma Bear,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful give-away. Homemade and from the heart. When we eventually get to our own place, I really want to give it a shot with bee's. I've talked to Bulldog Man and he said why wait, start now. It will have to wait until at least until next May after we move.
Mamma Bear, please drop my name in your hat for the give-away.
Sandy...If you want bees get some..You can move them very easily. I am putting your name in the hat!
DeletePlease enter me! :) love honey I have it every morning in my cup of tea, I want to try bees so badly but from what I understand they cannot be shipped and the only places I found to pick up is so far from home! I am stuck going to the health food store for mine.
ReplyDeleteYou CAN have bees shipped...This is how I got started as at the time I did not know any local beekeepers. Just type packaged bees in your search bar and you can find them including complete hives with bees! It is a good thing to purchase from the health food store. Anything you buy from the box stores no longer contain pollen which is what gives you all the great benefits from honey!
DeleteI'm putting your name in the hat for the honey!
LET'S ALL VOTE FOR IT TO GO TO SANDY! CASE CLOSED.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note: I'm being told that I NEED to start eating LOCAL honey because I'm in need of "something" in my body after moving from Indiana to Florida.
But these people selling honey out of their trucks, in plastic milk containers.....is that SAFE?
Lotta Joy...I would love to be able to send a jar of honey to all of my blog friends but unfortunately I do not have but one hive producing honey. I am putting your name in the hat and will be happy to send Sandy the honey if you win.
DeleteMost of our local beekeepers use Mason jars for their honey. I have never heard of using milk cartons. The larger operations will put them in the fancy honey jars or the plastic bear containers. If you sell honey, Florida laws requires your name, address, honey weight and if you are a cottage industry to state honey is not bottled in a USDA inspected facility. As a cottage industry, honey suppliers are allowed to sell %15,000.00 of honey per year. After that I you would be considered commercial and have to have further licenses and inspections. It can get into big bucks for commercial operations.
Honey from any of the large box stores has been ultra filtered or heated until there is no pollen remaining. Basically all you are getting is syrup with a honey taste without all of the excellent benefits honey has. Your local honey will have pollen in it from your area which will be beneficial to your immune system.
Lotta Joy,
DeleteI hear if you eat local honey for 1 year a teaspoon a day it will help improve your immune system.
Placing honey in sterilized jars I would think would be better for preserving. I would have to agree with Mamma Bear.
You're a sweetheart!
Yay a giveaway!
