I voted today...did you?

We live in a very small community.  We don't even have a red light and most of the roads are dirt.  Mom and I went to the volunteer fire department to vote.  In all my 26 years of living in our community I have never had to wait in line to vote.

Today when I turned on the street to the fire department I saw cars and lots of them.  Mom and I found a parking spot on the side of the road a good two blocks away by city standards.  People were lined up all the way to the street waiting to get in.  I counted 43 ahead of me in line.  After standing in line about 30 minutes a van drove up from the supervisors of elections.  He got out of the van and proceeded to unload 4 more voting booths.  The line moved faster after more booths arrived.  It still took Mom and I more than an hour.

I saw more young people waiting in line to vote than I ever have seen before.  I don't know if this was a good sign or not.  Entire families were there mid morning so I wondered if most of them were jobless and were voting for someone promising job growth or were they in line to vote for more foodstamps and unemployment.

I am proud of the amount of people who cast their vote in our community.  I just hope and pray it was for the right person.

  1. I live near my polling place. I drove by a few times until the line was not out the door. It was almost a block long from opening at 6 am until about 9 am, and is probably out the door again now that people from the military base are getting off work.

They were adding more places to sit and fill out ballots while I was there around 9:15 -- they only started with about 10 'booths', but since we use paper ballots, tables and chairs were welcomed by the 40 of us waiting for 10 little booths.

  2. We use paper ballots too...the ones where you color in the little circle. It would have went a lot faster if tables and chairs had been provided at our precinct. I would not have minded anyone "copying" my ballot! Thanks for your comment MM!

    2. Well it looks like we should just let Ohio vote .... that way they would not have to spend all that money on campaigning .... we are now in the minority .... hopefully things won't get worse in the next 4 years. Heaven forbid Joe Biden should ever step into the job.

  5. Ditto to all!

So glad your community had a good turnout. My fingers are so crossed right now, I don't think I can eat the fish taco hubby is making for me right now (w/cabbage instead of lettuce).

  6. It seems that most of the "communities" voted for the right man, but the electoral votes threw it in the wrong direction.

I wish I could throw up.

  7. I just don't understand the mentality and stupidity of people that would vote for Prez B.O. It's obvious that the people voting for him are not interested in creating more jobs, but would prefer to keep getting the handouts from him. I at least know on my conscious, that when I voted for Romney I was doing the right thing. And for all the liberals and turn coat-Benedict Arnold republicans that voted for this jerk, good luck to you all when SHTF comes down your way.

    1. So true spirit. I have a feeling it won't take some folks much longer before they find out.

  8. It's just so weird. Told some folks yesterday that I really pity the younger generation who never got to experience this country when it really was free, with unlimited opportunities for all. It has been painful to watch it all slip away. But, there is almost a sense of peace within some of us who have seen it coming for decades - it is done. Now we can finish grieving the loss of a once great civilization and move on.
