They came back....

I am afraid now.  More turkeys were slaughtered and drug through the fence sometimes during the night.  Three are missing.  ONLY A FEW LEFT ALIVE.  We cannot hear any noise in this house.  I have a little security camera that I used when I was busy inside and grandson was in the pool.  Papa Bear was able to get inside the chicken pen, hang it on a post and still have a signal in the house.  We put the camera inside a Ziploc to protect it from moisture as it is not made for staying outside.  I can at least hear the dogs barking inside if I am near the monitor.  The sound is not loud but I am hoping it is loud enough to wake me up during the night.  One turkey is on top of the greenhouse and has been there all day.  He better stay there tonight.  My only surviving Silkie has flew up into a tree.  I did not encourage her to get into the coop.  It is not safe there.

Papa Bear found these tracks in the road after the rain this morning.  I think it is a Coyote track.  I don't know if we have a pack of coyotes or dogs.  What happens when we run out of birds?  Will they go after the goats?  We have one dog each in two of our goat pens but I don't know if they would stand a chance with a pack of animals.  We are at wits ends as to what to do.  We can't stay up day and night.  Papa Bear stayed up night before last and nothing happened, the demons skipped a night.  Will they skip tonight and be back tomorrow night?

We have been shown; a pack of anything...animal or humans can be in our yard and we would never know.  Perhaps this is why this happened.  We are being shown now so we can figure out our next steps.

While researching packs of dogs I found this article.  Makes my skin crawl.  Danger from dog packs after TEOTWAWKI

  1. Seems to fat for a coyote track, it's canine though. Need to shoot them. Need help?

    1. Papa Bear piled a few bodies up by the trail that goes into the swamp.. He "watered' the bodies down with a treat. He also prepared a snack tray of wieners with the same condiment. I may have to have a critter getter party here. Can't pay much but I can feed you all well!..hahahaha

  2. This is horrible. But perhaos you are being given a glimpse into the future. Have you guys thought about re-doing the coop with a concrete pad so they cant dig under it?

    1. The problem isn't just the coop. It is the pen surrounding the coop. We planned on moving the chickens into the old goat pen when we get more work done on our new barn. It is near a security light. We used to have a small coop near that light and never lost a chicken. I think lights may be the answer to the chickens but doesn't help us not knowing what else may be lurking. This time whatever went in through the turkey pen that is connected to the chicken pen. I didn't post any of those pictures. They were much worse than the last time. A huge hole was in the fence with a carcass that looked like they were fighting over it both inside and out.

    2. in that case.... Senior and I came up with Motion Sensor Sprinklers...as soon as something is detected they get soaked.

Also if you have a Harbor Frieght store near you, they sell inexpensive motion detectors. you keep the base by your bed and it sounds an alarm to wake you up. We bought some for up at the Carolina Estate. I just hope you get the hell hounds....

    3. Glock Mom and Senior. We've got everything ordered. Should have an early warning system for critters and zombies now. Thanks for the suggestions!

  3. You need to get a local varmint hunter to do some calling there some night. They could put the cabosh on those critters in a hurry!

  4. I keep my bedroom window open at night (yes, even at zero degrees) so I can hear if something happens in the henhouse. But, a lot of time chickens don't make any noise if they are asleep and in the dark. If it were me, I would hook up an alarm and light and keep the shotgun handy. Maybe an electric wire near the bottom of fence. A lone coyote? Not likely. A pack of them got my neighbors dog last year. Camera is a great idea. So sorry you had to go thru this again.

    1. Our bedroom does not have a window. It has french doors that used to open onto a back porch and we closed that in several years ago for extra room. Camera worked well until the temps started dropping and then no signal. Papa Bear is out patrolling with the AK.

  5. Mamma Bear,

These animals knows there's food on your farm because they've been there before.
They will continue to return until their stopped. Be careful!!!

    1. Sandy...that's what I am afraid of. We are the only ones on our road with goats, chickens and turkeys. Others have horses and dogs. My little farm is easy picking for something. Although I complain about the horns on my goats, I am so glad I did not dehorn them. I have only two without horns. At least they can protect themselves some. They like the dogs who live with them but don't like any strangers. They run at the fence and butt any that come close. They can't stand the Marines puppies! I took the little stray in the pen the other day and he got ran at and almost tossed!

  6. I'm betting a dog or more than one dog. My experience way back when was that coyotes and foxes would carry off one fowl each and eat it usually. Dogs and coons would kill everything they could manage to get a hold of and many times a feral or stray dog would only take one as well. A dog that killed multiple birds and left them was usually a neighbors pet. My first guess when viewing rampant destruction and corpses everywhere was almost always a raccoon though. I never had any predation by weasels or cats so I don't know about them and this obviously isn't a raptor thing.

Do you hear coyotes at night any?

    1. For sure dog or coyote prints in the chicken yard. Also along the fence where they stopped to harass my Mom's Shepherd mix who resides in our fenced in back yard. Ground was torn up at the gate. Yep...Coyotes can be heard on many a night. Just haven't seen them.

    1. Thanks DFW... We got one bad picture on the wildlife cam but nothing since then. It was pouring rain last night so I don't know if that is what kept them away or .........

  8. Oh no! I hope you figure out what is doing this and kill it! If it's a neighbors dog then they owe you big time!
So sorry for all your losses. I can't even imagine :(

    1. If it was neighbors dogs and Papa Bear's treats worked on them, I don't think they would be stupid enough to ask if we harmed their dogs. We'd for sure know if they did eh? I keep hoping to see Buzzards swarming in the woods around us. I have never harmed an animal intentionally but this is war.

  9. There is a very simple device that is cheap and can be bought through Amazon.com. We attached it to a fence post and aimed it through the yard at 2 feet off the ground. Anything that breaks the beam throws an alarm in the house. It sounds like you could use two of them at least. I think it's called a DRIVEWAY ALERT.
